Host Your Blog Into Your Own Domain

Recently some users ask me how I add .com in my blog. For your information .com is a domain and you must buy this domain to obtain it. If you use Blogger like mine you don't need to buy hosting anymore because the new version of Blogger now supports using a custom domain for serving your blog. Unlike FTP publishing, which is requires you to buy both a domain name and a hosting service.Using Blogger's custom domains is a simple way to start serving your blog on your own domain without having to muck around with FTP paths and file names. There's no waiting for files to upload to a hosting provider.

Get the idea? Now you can get a domain of your own without displaying blogspot.com but yoursite.com. Don't worry about the content because it will be displayed at your new address and if your visitors type your old blogspot.com it will redirect to your new address. So you don’t need to worry about losing your visitor. So how can I start?

1. The first thing you'll need to do is to choose a domain name, like mysite.com and register it. You can register domain names from any number of different registrars, and you can use .com, .org, .net or any other valid addresses. I'm using GoDaddy.com to register my domain. Please remember you only need to get the domain name, you don't have to pay extra for hosting service. After complete your registration you will be sent an email saying that you have successfully registered your domain. Make sure you keep this email for your future reference.

2. After you get your domain, you need to update DNS setting. DNS stands for Domain Name System, and a DNS server determines what site a given address takes you to. You need to create a CNAME record for your domain with the DNS, associating your domain with ghs.google.com. As I use GoDaddy.com so I will explain how to create CNAME on GoDaddy.com.

a. Login to your account. Open the Domains tab and select My Domains. You'll be directed to the Domain Manager page.

b. Click your domain

c. Click the Total DNS Control and MX Records link at the bottom of the section entitled Total DNS.

d. Click Add New CName Record

e. In 'Enter an Alias Name' enter only subdomain of the address you want to use for your blog. If you picked www.mysite.com, enter www only. If you picked blog.mysite.com, enter blog only
f. In 'Points to Host Name' enter ghs.google.com as showed below.
g. Let TTL set as default and click OK

Once you've told one particular DNS server about your new domain, it will have to transfer that information to all the other servers on the internet, which could take a couple of days. So be aware that your new domain won't necessarily be working instantly.

3. Update Your Blogger Settings

You are almost done! At this point you already have a domain name and setup the DNS server. To make sure your new address is working you must update your blogger setting. Go to Settings | Publishing tab. If you are publishing on blogspot.com you will see a link near the top offering to switch you to a custom domain. Click that link.

At this point you will see a page that offer you to buy a domain for your blog. Because you already own a domain so just find a link "Switch to advanced settings". Click that link.

Enter your domain and word verification. Save your setting and you are DONE!

Remember that it will take couple of days to make sure all the DNS servers have been updated. So you must wait until your new address is working.

Interesting About Gmail Theme – Bus Stop

Have you apply your Gmail Theme before? If yes, you will find an interesting feature in some of their theme. One of them is Bus Stop theme. This theme show you several people are waiting for their bus and sometimes the weather will be changed. That is interesting about it. For the first time I use this theme, I can see a giraffe with a little girl and sometimes it’s raining. The weather will change every time. I don’t know if this weather is according to currently weather outside but it’s cool.
